Is the United States a nation of loosely held groups or is it a nation of people with a common goal?

So many people group themselves as Republican, Democrat, Asian, White, Black, Latino, Christian, Atheist, Jewish, Pro Life, and Pro Choice. We are all Americans. Why don't we celebrate our common goals, the pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Is the United States a nation of loosely held groups or is it a nation of people with a common goal?
A common goal would be nice.Is the United States a nation of loosely held groups or is it a nation of people with a common goal?
We are pursuing life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by being diverse, and not following one group like sheep or lemmings. That would be fascism....
I think you answered your own question there, kiddo! As to celebrating...I think we do. It's found in being able to BE a Republican, Democrtat, Asian, White, etc., etc. Do you see? The ';pursuit of happiness'; is a different path for all... It's only a different road to the same goals (excepting, of course, the ones who harm others...) The only GOOD thing I saw come out of September 11th was how quickly the American Flags went up, and the whole country pulled together to support New York, and face our enemy.
I'd say we are just loosely held together. Look at it from this perspective, there is so much aparthy in the U.S. No one cares about what is happening around them, alkl that concerns them are their own needs and wants. For example, we as a people are losing more and more of our constituional right every day, and most people aren't even aware of it happening. Does the Patriot Act ring a bell? This is just one example, there are many others.
it is a nation of lemmings willing to follow any old bafoon over the edge of sanity.
Division is easer to create than bring people together. It keeps money flowing...and sustains power... temporarily. I find that money is the root to most malevolent things.

The state of society depends on the ability to adjust to the American dream: in the United States this being successful in life. Many other countries do this as well. For whichever reasons, society has placed enfaces on accumulating money and various riches. So much stress is pressed on ';making money'; that it is tarring down the very values which we (all people) identify with: love, trust, safety, peace of mind. These things are expected to unite us because we share them in common. They would if we spend enough “time” in our community of people all over the world…

Stop all monetary transactions for a period of time and use “time” in the community to help each other. This is only as impossible as we make it. Labor is not free. Neither are the negative events in our community free; they, in my opion, cost much more than the time we can take to fix them.

What is the top reason that decides where a person can go to college or not?

What is the top reason why people make derogatory music, images, and the like?

What is the main reason that costs a person to sell drugs?

Sometimes out of disparity, money drives people to do the most outrages things.

Because very few people actually believe in America. It's not really taught that we should seek a higher enlightenment on a daily basis as all Americans. People will laugh at that statement but all of the Founding Fathers viewed themselves in that way. Our lobbyist are destroying our country. Our capitalism has been so successful that is sometimes undermines are honest attempts at creating a Democracy. Our melting pot of thought and colors are what makes us awesome on the worlds stage but some have too much power and some to little and the checks and balances that our government was built on was destroyed a long time with the introduction of massive immigration or should I say massive exclusion of all the worlds peoples except for Europeans. This is what weakened us and delayed our eventual move towards democracy in the 60's. It came with a heavy price. We waited too long and it nearly destroyed our country. Our common goal should simply be to follow and exceed the mandate sat down in the Declaration of Independence. If we follow that we will be fine.
