Before Israel became a nation state in the late 40s, what was that area? Was it part of any country at all?

Palestine and Jordan (the trans Jordan) were all part of a British Mandate under the League of Nations, and Lebanon and Syria were a French Mandate. This dated from the end of WWI and the Ottoman Empire. Before it was a backwater province of the Empire. Before Israel became a nation state in the late 40s, what was that area? That land was a British colony. The British seized it from the Turks in WWI, %26amp; the Turks took it from the Mamluks in the 1500s. Before them, it was ruled by Saladin's descendants.

The ancient land of Palestine was inhabited %26amp; ruled by different people along its long history. %26amp; it's sacred to Jews, Christians, %26amp; Muslims.
it was palestine. Present day it is Isreal and Lebannon, well actually isreal won land from Syria in their first war.

forgot to mention that it was owned by Britain because of the end of the Ottoman empire
It was the British Mandate of Palestine - the former province of the Ottoman Empire was put under British trusteeship by the League of Nations after World War I.
All of Palestine was under British control
