Is the concept of nation-state and its dysfunctional institutions and borders obsolete?

Its not obsolete if it's in general use and the norm by which things operate... which as we can see by looking at 99% of the world's countries, is pretty much true. The whole world is DEFINED by it's nation states. And frankly, it doesn't look likely to change any time soon either.





Just because anarchy or world government sounds cool doesn't mean it would work all that well. We as the human race define ourselves by language, race, ethnic group, and nation state. That's not to mention that our collective economies are built around the concept of nations. It's so ingrained into our social dynamic that to call it obsolete is silly.





May be in a few hundred years such things won't matter, but it's obvious just by looking at the world today, that such concepts are far from obsolete.

NO
No. Instead, I think the concept of globalism and borderless societies has now come to be understood as an attempt by big businesses to break down bargaining units and political counterchecks that had bargaining power into a horde of labor where price is set by the lowest wage in the poorest country.





But from the way you phrase your question, I think we know where you are coming from.
In some countries, maybe. But the concept works in the sane countries of the West (also France).
