How come the US is only united as a nation in a state of crisis?

after that we all fight each other again. I mean 9/11, Virginia Tech we grieved together as a nation. How come the US is only united as a nation in a state of crisis?
You are correct about 9/11 uniting the country but VA tech was split between the gun grabbers and the people that understand that it takes a gun to save lives when a psychopath decides to go on a killing spree. How come the US is only united as a nation in a state of crisis?
To answer your question, first you need to look at that which is causing the division. I've been around for 54 and a half years, and I've seen a lot. I was a child of the sixties and a very proud American, I was taught that all Americans, should be treated with earnest respect. Through the years I saw prejudice and hatred. I so a huge clash in ideologies and moralities. I'm sure in each generation there must be a degree of difference, otherwise we would not be able to grow and understand ourselves. All of these problematic differences were still held together by a since of oneness. We in our house were fixing and struggling with the strife. But when it came to how the world saw us, we were united in our desire for the freedoms of all.

We separate by demographic in politics (you see liberals do this more then conservatives) and speak to each of those demographics as if we were one. If a politician can't be him/herself and finds it necessary to submit to the needs of one demographic, then it is impossible to see a leader standing for all demographics. When we place a label, i.e. ';first black president'; on our political leaders we push the dividing lines even further apart. There is a statue of justice, in her hand a scale and her eye's have been blind folded. It's supposed to represent a system of blind judgment were each individual stands equal with any other individual. Pointing out that an individual is _______ is pointing out a difference in that individual that should have no merit to the preceding or the aspects of how a government should act upon a specific case. We don't act this way, we make special reparations for specific groups which angers other groups which divides us as Americans. It is unfortunate that the only time is seems we forget our differences is when we have a larger feat at hand.
Part of Free Speech.

When everyone has the right to speak their mind, we eventually realize that we don't agree with each other.

After 9/11, we shut up long enough to remember that we are all Americans and should protect each other. Actually, we should be remembering that we are all humans, and that we should all protect each other worldwide; but that is a whole other issue.

Point is, it takes a 9/11 to shut us up long enough to LISTEN, and not just hear. Not listen to each other's ramblings, but to each other's spirit (if you will).

Then we start talking again, and we get back to foolishness.
How come siblings fight and yet when someone else attacks one of them the whole clan comes into it. Same thing we may argue and fight and call each other names but no one else is going to do it while another of us is there to help put them down.
It's human nature. I bet your own family isn't even united most of the time about what they want for dinner. People have different experiences and form different opinions. It's a good thing.
This Isn't A State Of Crisis - Its A State of Insanity
Look on the bright side. We unite as a nation in a time of crisis. The rest is all political bs anyhow.
We don't have any crisis compared to either Palestine or Israel.
I'm not sure we even get along during a crisis anymore
Much like my wife i can tell her off and get upset with her But you better not try it
this country is in major crisis now, and is more divided then ever
because we are human
How true, sad isn't it.
